Duplicity has a strangely old fashioned feel, right down to the Hays Code inspired ending that suggests that the principals are not allowed to profit from their crimes. Likewise it’s one of those curious films that seems to get by on star-power alone, it’s difficult to imagine this would work quite as well without the wattage.
Like most caper movies it’s impossible to say anything without giving away the twists and turns that are part of the course for something like this, suffice to say there are some nice moments along the way and it never feels less than fun. It’s not going to change the world or make any best lists, but it is a competent two-hander that never aspires to be more than good, old fashioned entertainment.
A solid piece of Friday Night entertainment that will be forgotten by Saturday.
